There are certain myths and beliefs about why some people seem to overcome life’s struggles, and somewhat thrive through the ranks with such ease. I’m not talking about those who inherited money from their great or great, great grandparents, but rather the people who had humble beginnings and tragic upbringings, yet whose gifts or talents opened many doors for. In comparison, there are millions of people with great abilities who are smart and intelligent, yet it seems as if life is passing them by.
When you hear and read the stories of people who have risen out of humble or poor conditions such as Michael Jordan, Mark Zuckerberg, Oprah Winfrey, Howard Schultz, Russell Simmons, Earvin (Magic) Johnson, John Paul DeJoria, and others who have come from low income lifestyles only to rise to the lifestyles of the rich and famous; You can almost believe to a large degree that maybe there are people who had a little extra gold dust sprinkled on them at birth.
These are some of the people of which 90% of us look at as being super- human, or as having some special gift that most people in this world just don’t have. Perhaps, they sold their soul to the devil in exchange for wealth and success. Now, as outlandish as this may sound, some people will accept this as a reality to justify why they just can’t seem to get over the hump.
Well, let me tell you the truth. Not one single person has any more ability to succeed in life or business than you. Life doesn’t have to be hard; it has to be functional and purposeful. You have to add meaning to your life; and goals, dreams, and vision are one way to add significance. Some people excel at life and business and some don’t – which one are you?
Contrary to popular belief, there are no codes to crack, safes to pick, or mysteries to solve. All that is required is to understand that the so-called-secret hidden behind a successful life, is diligence. You have to know what you want, and you have to want it bad enough to go for it regardless of the sacrifices it demands. Sometimes, the only thing blocking you from reaching your goal is the one thing you have a difficult time letting go. So, what’s blocking you?
“Great achievement is usually born of great sacrifice, and is never the result of selfishness.”
~Napoleon Hill
When people come to me about what they would like to do with their lives, I usually try to get them to make the decision to start the journey of reaching their goals before they find an excuse they can believe. If you give them a ‘What if it doesn’t happen’ scenario, you will have just reduced their dream or goals to an excuse. The excuse would prove to be just what they were looking for, because the demands may be greater than their desire. There is no room in my life for excuses—every space is occupied.
If you want to be a winner, change your philosophy about what it requires now! If you think you are totally incapable of owning and running your own business, then make that your goal. Why? It’s hard to keep score without a goal. Life needs adventure, excitement, and challenge; without these you’re just waiting for the grave.
Did you know that you only have today to get tomorrow right; but you cannot use today to correct the wrongs from yesterday? Belief in yourself and in your God-given abilities is a premium. Real confidence and empowerment is not determined by knowledge. Knowledge is from the past, which means it is safe but outdated. Why? Because what got you here, won’t get you there!
Some knowledge conflicts with originality and innovation. Knowledge is experience, and most people wish they had avoided most of the experiences they’ve encountered during their lifetimes. Experience can be an inhibitor to your success because it is built on solutions to old problems and situations. If you have the knowledge you most likely will use it again. Experience is the opposite of being imaginative and resourceful.
Find your true authentic self, and you will discover your hidden treasure. However, if you continue to search outside of yourself, you will only seek to be a cheap carbon copy of a great original.
